We conducted our first ever 'World Languages Showcase on April 24th, 2024 at Soquel High School. . High school students from Soquel High, Harbor High School, Rolling Hills Middle School, Mountain Elementary School Watsonville High School and Pajaro Valley high School came together to recite poetry in Spanish Hindi, and Mixtec. Students also submitted videos of their poems for the website.
Ms.Roxana Jimenez's AP Spanish class at Soquel High School explores immigration, cultural identities, social injustices such as the role of women in our society. SHS students wrote poems that reflected either about how they see themselves as women or how men see women or the development of their own identities and the conflicts they encounter as they explore who they really are.
Sra. Cappiello's Spanish 4 for Heritage Speakers classes from Harbor High School, students wrote poems about their multiple cultural identities, analyzing what it means to them to live between worlds.
These powerful poems reflect the voice of the youth; thoughts, opinions and emotions.
